Procedure: Read the book together. Take time to talk about the story and the information in the illustrations and captions. Ask questions throughout the process to be sure that the student understands the story. When you are finished reading the book, play the game using the directions below. Choose a vocabulary activity to reinforce meaning.
Game Directions:
1. Each player rolls the die. The lowest roll goes first. The players continue going clockwise.
2. Each player rolls and moves the number of spaces on the die. If the player lands on a boat, he picks up a card, reads it and answers the question. He can use the book to help.
3. If the answer is correct, the player moves ahead one more space. If the answer is not correct, the player stays on the space. Use the answer sheet to check answers if necessary.
4. The winner is the player who gets to the end of the board first.
